COQUITLAM – With its fall fundraising gala successfully wrapped up, the Coquitlam Foundation is now looking forward to celebrating National Philanthropy Day.
National Philanthropy Day has been marked annually for 24 years on November 15 as a way of recognizing the great contributions that philanthropy makes to our lives and our world.
“The Coquitlam Foundation is but one of several local charities that, working together, help make our community strong,” says Colleen Talbot, the foundation’s chair. “By encouraging and facilitating philanthropy, the foundation plays a growing role in the life of Coquitlam.”
Established in 1992, the Coquitlam Foundation encourages and supports creative, targeted philanthropy that builds a vibrant, sustainable, and healthy community. This year, the foundation distributed over $50,000 in grants, bursaries and scholarships. As well, the Coquitlam Foundation offers local residents the opportunity to focus their donations in their own community and also to create a legacy for the future.
Last month, the foundation’s Bellbottoms & Beads gala event at the Red Robinson Theatre raised about $10,000 through ticket sales, donations and a silent auction. “We want to thank everyone who made this event such a great success, from corporate sponsors such as this newspaper, Great Canadian Casinos and Eureka Resources Inc., to individual ticket purchasers,” Talbot says. “They all played a vital role.”
As part of the foundation’s ongoing work to encourage philanthropy, the Coquitlam Foundation’s executive director, Laurel Lawson, will be participating in the “Foundations Workshop” at the Coquitlam Innovation Centre, 7-9 p.m., November 25. Organized by the City of Coquitlam, the workshop aims to familiarize the public with the many local grant opportunities open to them.
The Coquitlam Foundation is always pleased to accept donations, c/o P.O. Box 2, 1207 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, B.C., Canada, V3B 7Y3. Donations can also be made through the Foundation’s website, www.coquitlamfoundation.com. The Coquitlam Foundation is registered with Canada Revenue as a charitable organization, Number 890762347 RR0001.
