Coquitlam, June 20, 2023:
COQUITLAM – The Coquitlam Foundation recently held it’s annual Awards Night on June 7 th at the Evergreen Cultural Centre to celebrate a highly successful year of community philanthropy. The event, attended by invitees only due to limited seating, was sponsored by the Evergreen cultural Centre, Quantus Homes, Thrifty Foods, and Sandpiper Signs & Decals Inc.
According to Carol Cahoon, The Executive Director of the Coquitlam Foundation, it has been an exciting year for grants and scholarship awards. Last year’s in-person event was also a success, prompting the need for a limited guest list again this year. Cahoon expressed her satisfaction with the celebration, stating that it was a wonderful event enjoyed by all.
The attendees were treated to a special performance by Lucas Mason Yao, an eight-year-old musician from Vancouver who has gained global recognition for his exceptional talents in music. Yao has won top awards in national and international piano competitions since the age of five.
Despite market volatility and employing conservative investment management, the Coquitlam Foundation has managed a portfolio of over $7.3 million. In the past year, they were able to distribute grants and scholarships totaling $132, 595. This brings the total amount given back to the community by “the Heart of the Community” to $2.8 million.
Overall, the Coquitlam Foundation’s annual Awards Night served as a testament to their commitment to supporting and enhancing the local community through philanthropic efforts.
