Canada 150 funds available through Coquitlam Foundation

COQUITLAM – The Coquitlam Foundation has joined with the Community Foundations of Canada to offer “Community Fund for Canada 150” grants, of up to $7,000, to qualifying Coquitlam organizations.

“Partnering with the Community Foundations of Canada provides the Coquitlam Foundation with access to matching funding to make larger grants than we would normally be able to make,” explains Dwight Yochim, executive director of the foundation. “These grants will be responsive to local priorities, connected to Canada’s 150th anniversary and will foster a greater sense of belonging, inclusion and reconciliation in our community.”

The Community Fund for Canada’s 150 (CFC150) is a collaboration between the country’s community foundations, the Government of Canada, and leaders from coast to coast to coast. The 191-member Community Foundations of Canada organization and the Coquitlam Foundation will share in the provision of funds for the CFC150 grants.

The program calls for qualifying grant recipients to match the money they receive with an equal amount of their own funds or in-kind support for the specified project. For example, an applicant that requests a $2,000 grant would be required to contribute $2,000 worth of funding from other sources and/or in-kind support such as volunteer hours, donated services, equipment or space.

Registered charities operating within Coquitlam are eligible to apply.

The Coquitlam Foundation will be accepting applications for these grants as part of its regular granting cycle until 4 pm February 15, 2017. After that date, the foundation will accept CFC150 applications only from applicants connected to one of the two dozen donor-advised funds the foundation manages. Deadlines for those applications are June 15 and November 15.

The Coquitlam Foundation manages $2.9 million in 29 foundation-directed and donor-advised funds. The foundation always welcomes donations to any of its donor-advised or foundation-directed funds, which can be made through its website.

As well, the foundation invites interested individuals or organizations to consider establishing a fund with the foundation. Individuals and families are also encouraged to think of the foundation when planning legacy and estate donations.

The Coquitlam Foundation is registered with Canada Revenue as a charitable organization, No. 890762347 RR0001.
