COQUITLAM – The Coquitlam Foundation has launched a new fund in partnership with Soroptimists International of the TriCities. The Soroptimist TriCities Fund is the foundation’s 23rd donor-advised fund.
Creation of the fund was announced by Janet Toddington, chair of the Coquitlam Foundation board, at the Soroptimists’ Give Her Wings Gala in Port Moody on Feb. 28. The news inspired several attendees to donate a total of $2,000 to the fund.
The fund’s purpose is to provide assistance to women and girls, primarily from or residing in the Tri-Cities and surrounding villages.
Bursaries and scholarships from the fund will support educational program, skills development and career training. Grants will also be issued to provide assistance for and support of women and girls in need or suffering in poverty or homelessness, or requiring shelter or assistance to transition to a life on their own.
As well, financial assistance will be provided to support programs that educate, empower and enable women and girls in the area of health and wellness, and protection against domestic violence.
“We are very pleased the Soroptimists have given us the opportunity to manage and help build this important fund,” Toddington says. “We look forward to seeing the fruits of the Soroptimists’ good work in the years to come.” The foundation now manages $2.8 million in more than two dozen foundation-directed and donor-advised funds.
The foundation always welcomes donations to its funds or for its general use. Please visit our website, www.coquitlamfoundation.com, for details. The foundation is registered with Canada Revenue as a charitable organization, No. 890762347 RR0001.
