COQUITLAM – The Coquitlam Foundation is pleased to announce that it will distribute almost $83,000 in grants, bursaries and scholarships to students and community organizations at its annual Awards Night, to be held June 13 at the Evergreen Cultural Centre.
Executive Director Dwight Yochim said the disbursements include $42,500 in scholarships and bursaries, and $40,050 in grants. “It’s extremely gratifying to be able to support so many worthy individuals and groups,” Yochim said. “As the charitable heart of Coquitlam, the foundation exists to support our community, and this is exactly what our awards accomplish.”
Ron Grender, chair of the foundation’s grants committee, said credit for the foundation’s success has to go to its many supporters. “Generous donors are our lifeblood,” Grender said. “Once again, we must thank our fund holders, who enable us to award substantial funds to so many deserving recipients. Our only wish would be to have even more to distribute, as there were additional worthy recipients we could not support this year.”
There’s no cost to attend the awards ceremony, and everyone is invited. A reception begins at 6:30 p.m. and the awards will be distributed from 7 p.m. onwards. The event features entertainment by the Summit Middle School Jazz Band. Event sponsors include Sandpiper Signs and Decals, Quantus Luxury Homes, Thrifty Foods and the Evergreen Cultural Centre. Please email the foundation at email@example.com if you intend to come.
“This is our favourite event of the year, when we celebrate all of the efforts and successes in our community,” said board chair Colleen Talbot. “And none of this would be possible without the efforts of some very dedicated people, two of whom are leaving their committee chair positions at the end of the month.” Grender, after eight consecutive years on the Board, will be retiring. Events chair Linda Meneghello will be staying on the board but turning over the leadership of the committee to another board member. “Many thanks to these two hard working people,” Talbot said.
