In 2010 Alex Bell decided he wanted to start a community fund that would help support diversity groups that may be marginalized in Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities, to become more integrated either socially or economically into the community. So the Community Diversity Fund was born. In order to help raise money for this fund Alex, with the support of Laurel Lawson, started a community fund raising event called the Coquitlam Crunch Diversity Challenge in 2010.

Alexander Bell moved to Coquitlam in 2000. He has a long history of working with a variety of diversity groups including youth, people with mental health challenges, people with disabilities, Canadian immigrants, and aboriginal communities. In 2010 Alex decided he wanted to start a community fund that would help support diversity groups that may be marginalized in Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities, to become more integrated either socially or economically into the community. So the Community Diversity Fund was born. In order to help raise money for this fund Alex, with the support of Laurel Lawson, started a community fund raising event called the Coquitlam Crunch Diversity Challenge in 2010.

Established in October 2011, the Community Diversity Fund will provide grants to Tri-Cities non-profit organizations, or community groups initiating actions, programs or education aimed at improving integration, participation or access in the community for any diversity group(s) identified by the community as being marginalized. Priority will be given to initiatives which benefit the people of Coquitlam. Uses of this fund will include, but are not limited to: grants to support diversity initiatives that encourage or facilitate the inclusion of diversity groups into the social or economic fabric of the community grants to support initiatives that encourage dialogue, understanding and respect of, or between two or more diversity groups (such as seniors and youth, different cultures, different religions); and grants to support initiatives to educate the community about the different diversity groups in order to promote better understanding, acceptance and inclusion. The primary way the fund raises money is through the annual Coquitlam Crunch Challenge.
Tri-Cities non-profit organizations, or community groups initiating actions, programs or community groups initiating actions, programs or education aimed at improving the social  or economic integration, participation or access in the community for any diversity group(s) identified by the community as being marginalized. Priority will be given to initiatives which benefit the people of Coquitlam.
