Coquitlam Foundation announces scholarship, bursary and grant winners

COQUITLAM — The Coquitlam Foundation is distributing almost $50,000 to recipients of scholarships, bursaries and grants this year.

“We are extremely pleased that, despite these trying economic times, we have been able to continue our efforts to build Coquitlam’s social infrastructure and to support so many worthy recipients,” Coquitlam Foundation chair Colleen Talbot said in announcing this year’s recipients.

Grant recipients for 2008-09 are: Kidsport BC ($3,500); PoCoMo Youth ($3,500); Children of the Street Society ($3,500); Mothers Against Drunk Driving ($3,000); Kateslem After School Program ($3,500); Coquitlam Public Library ($2,000); Lord Baden Powell PAC ($1,500); Vancouver International Children’s Festival ($3,000); Place des Arts ($2,000); Glen Pine 50-Plus Society ($600); Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation ($3,500); Societe Place Maillardville ($2,000). Earlier, the Foundation awarded $2,000 to the I Love My City campaign and $5,500 to the Evergreen Cultural Centre for its Water’s Edge event.

The Coquitlam Foundation is also awarding $1,000 bursaries to the following students: Sadia Badiei, Mariko Baerg, Dylan Jenken, Taylor Verhaegen, Chris Lee, Dhruv Shangari and Tyler Wenzel. In addition, Kelly Yip is receiving a $1,000 Raymond A. LeClair Memorial Scholarship and Daniel Mortensen is the recipient of $1,000 from the CMLA Brodie Campbell Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The Coquitlam Foundation is holding its annual Grants & Awards Presentation Evening at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 21 at the Evergreen Cultural Centre, 1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam. The general public is welcome, should call 604.468.9598 or email if planning to attend.
“We want to thank all our donors and volunteers for continuing to be so generous throughout the year,” Talbot said, adding that details are now being finalized for this coming fall’s fundraising gala.
