New View Society – Supporting Individuals With Mental Illness

The New View Society was founded in 1973 with a mission to foster the growth and recovery of individuals with mental illness in the Tri-Cities, though Housing, Employment, and Social Recreation programs. One of the ways in which they support the employment of individuals with mental illness is through their One Stop Assembly, a social enterprise which employs around 30 New View members per year. Using small weight scales and a heat sealing/dating process, the employees of the OSA package and co-pack a variety of products.

Over the past three years, the customer base of the OSA has been steadily growing, and they needed a new band sealer to fully service this demand. After receiving $2500 in funds from the Coquitlam Foundation Community Grant in 2018, the New View Society was able to purchase the band sealer that is now used in their social enterprise. This allows the One Stop Assembly work crews to efficiently address any equipment challenges during an order, and complete orders in a timelier manner.
