Coquitlam Foundation Receives Significant Donation

The Coquitlam Foundation is the beneficiary of a significant estate from the late Margaret Susan Price (Sue). Sue worked for RBC for most of her career and while she loved many things in the world, she loved her cats the most. It was this love of cats coupled with an understanding of how cats provide companionship for seniors, that led to this fund.

“The Coquitlam Foundation is set up to help donors like Sue achieve their philanthropic desires  Sue has left us with a significant legacy we now get to fulfil.”” said Roch Ripley, Chair of the Coquitlam Foundation, “

The Coquitlam Foundation was established in 1992 and has an endowment of $3.2 million. This donation will bring that endowment to just shy of $4 million.

The fund established by Ms. Price will be used as follows:

  1. 60%  will go towards organizations that rescue, rehabilitate and/or find adoptive homes for cats with an emphasis on the placement of adult/senior cats and that follow-up on placed rescues and are in or serve the Tri-city area ; and
  2. 40% will go to organizations that foster cats to live out their senior years with willing and able seniors. These can include programs that provide boarding o for cats in the event of holiday or travel plans and all vet bills including transportation to and from pet-related appointments.

“Sue obviously loved cats, recognized how important they can be for companionship and was generous enough to ensure there was a fund big enough to help a lot of cats and seniors,” said Dwight Yochim, Executive Director of the Coquitlam Foundation. “Our services are to help others achieve their philanthropic goals. We can help you lower your taxes, whether they be capital gains or other taxes and we have a new estate fund that allows you to establish your fund now and list it in your will. We even have an emerging fund that allows you to build a new fund over four years.”

The Coquitlam Foundation has given out over $1.5 million in scholarships, bursaries and community grants over the years and has plans to grow the endowment so that it can increase the annual donations. Coquitlam is truly an amazing place and the Coquitlam Foundation is the given heart of the community.
